Wonder
Image by my husband, of our backyard during the Aurora Borealis
My husband woke me up last night around 11pm. “The lights are amazing!”
I put on my fuzzy bathrobe, and we stepped outside onto our deck. It was a quiet, dark night in the woods.
When I looked up, I saw nothing. No lights.
I sat on a deck chair and stared at the sky for a while. Slowly, the lights came into view.
At first, they looked like misty clouds. Then they changed to purple and green, while flashing white light. They took over the sky and then faded and then came back again.
I kept thinking how I’ve always wanted to see the Aurora Borealis, but I hadn’t yet planned my grand Arctic expedition.
And now, I was sitting barefoot on my deck, and here they were. The lights. A moment of wonder and awe in my backyard.
