Does any of this sound familiar?

  • You want to write. In fact, you want to write so much that not writing is a thing for you. It matters to you that you’re not writing, and you would love help making writing a regular part of your life.

  • Sometimes writing feels hard, because it can be lonely. Sitting by yourself, writing with no connection to others, diminishes your creative energy. You would love to be part of a kind community of people who write.

  • When you think about writing, you know you want to write from the heart, and you would love a boost of confidence, so you can share your authentic voice with the world.

  • You are a witchy person (or witch-curious). The realms of magic, intuition, imagination, and inspiration are fun for you, and you would love to be part of a writing program that leads with magic.

You already know how challenging it can be to find a supportive and motivating writing community that focuses on making writing fun and not on criticizing your creative endeavors.

This is what inspired me to create Pen and Hearth. I wanted to create a safe, warm, and welcoming space for you to find inspiration and start writing.

Introducing Pen and Hearth

Pen and Hearth is a writing community where you will build a thriving writing practice with the support of a kind and encouraging group of witchy writers.

If you want to write but have trouble getting into the flow, then our community is for you. It’s especially for you if you often worry about not writing, and you live your life with the nagging feeling that you are failing because you haven’t written.

Pen and Hearth is the kind, safe, and welcoming community that will help you finally start writing, so you can live your life with the satisfying feeling of having an active writing life.

What Do We Do?

In Pen and Hearth, we help you build a daily(ish) writing practice using witchy writing prompts. Think oracle cards, witchy storytelling, ethereal images, self-reflection, and more. As a community member, you will have access to the daily prompts and use them to write for 10 minutes a day (or as many days of the week as works for you).

These prompts are surprisingly fun, motivating, and inspiring. Our members have discovered new stories and characters, experienced personal revelations, written beautiful poetry, and more.

As part of the prompts, you also get to engage with a bit of magic everyday. The prompts are organized by witchy themes, and we start new themes on every new moon. When you do the daily prompts not only will you start writing, but you will also go on magical lunar cycle journeys.

What is a Writing Practice?

The writing practice we help you develop is one where you show up to the page on a regular basis, without an agenda, in order to stretch your imagination, connect to inspiration, and bolster confidence in your voice.

This kind of writing practice not only helps you start writing, but it can support whatever writing project you want to pursue. For example, if you want to write a book, then this writing practice can help you stay aligned to the authenticity, meaning, and voice of your book.

Of course, there is no pressure to write every single day. This is a non-perfectionist group. There is no being behind, getting a bad grade, or doing it wrong. Instead, we want to help you show up to the page on a regular basis, but how often you write depends on you and what will help you feel like you have an active writing life. You get to decide what that is.

What Else Do We Do?

Beyond the writing prompts, you will find weekly pep talk videos to help you keep going, a community chat space to get the support you need, and seasonal witchy writing parties on Zoom to connect with other members.

Think of Pen and Hearth as a cozy inn in a fantasy book, filled with witches sitting by the hearth who are writing together, brewing magic together, and empowering each other’s self-expression.

What makes Pen and Hearth different?

We are a community of witchy writers. This means we are folks who want to write and who also love witchy tools and practices. We especially love following the lunar cycle, working with oracle cards, telling witchy stories, being introspective, learning about astrology, and experiencing transformation in our writing lives.

To help you start writing, we offer daily witchy writing prompts. Think oracle cards, witchy storytelling, ethereal images, self-reflection, and more. These prompts might surprise you with where they take you in your writing. Our members have discovered new stories and characters, experienced personal revelations, written poetry, and come to understand who they are as writers and creatives.

To help boost your confidence, we offer kind feedback on your writing. This is not a writing critique group. We don’t offer critical feedback. Instead, if you share your writing with us, other members will reflect on what they liked about your writing or what resonated for them about what you shared. This will help you understand the impact your voice can have in the world. Sharing your writing with us is optional, but it is a great way to boost your confidence.

We want to help you write on a daily(ish) basis. This means we will help you develop a regular writing habit, but we are not a perfectionist group. In our community there is no being behind, getting a bad grade, or doing it wrong. This space is for you to build a writing practice that works for YOU.

Hi, I’m Emma Veritas!

I'm a writer, writing coach, and creative witch who is here to help you set aside external expectations about what writing "should" look like, so you can be your most wildly authentic self in this creative craft you love.

I use a blend of practical writing tips and magical tools (like intention setting, oracle cards, and lunar cycles) to help you dissolve writing blocks, get clear on next steps, and follow through on your creative dreams.

I've completed Martha Beck's Life Coach Training. I'm an endorsed Soul's Calling Coach, and I have my English degree from the Honors Program at UMass Boston, where I wrote my thesis on the power of story during hard times.

I have been writing blogs, social media posts, online courses, workbooks, and stories for the past 8 years, after a magical healing journey of transforming my writing angst into enchanted flow, and I can't wait to help you too!

I host and produce a podcast for writers called The Witchy Writers’ Podcast. My latest writing project is A Year of Nature and Magic at Home, which you can find at emmaveritas.substack.com. I produced and co-hosted the podcast Full Heart Free Voice Podcast, and I’m currently writing a workbook series for writers called, Magick 101 for the Writing Life, which you can find in my shop.

When I'm not working, I love to read, putter in the garden in my Pacific Northwest yard, play with oracle cards, chat with my besties, and hang out with my hubby and pet rabbit.

Testimonials

“I joined Pen and Hearth right after the 21 day Inspired Challenge because I loved the whole experience and wanted more.  It really helps keep my creativity rolling and has helped me uncover some blocks as well as find some new directions to flow in.  I love the positivity that is in the community!  It’s also fun getting to know people through their writing.  It feels like a safe haven to write what comes through the heart!  I’ve  written in different ways and tried new forms of writing.  Emma gives us new themes to work with and new ways to look at them, such as through astrology.  The best thing is that there is no pressure to write everyday.  If life gets in the way or it just doesn’t feel right, we don’t have to write. It’s been a great experience so far and I can’t wait to see where it goes from here.”

- Janet B., member of Pen and Hearth

“Underneath Emma’s calm, kind exterior lives a totally fierce and brilliant badass. Her clear explanations, warm presence, generosity, and deep skills make her a teacher of the highest standard. I have learned so much from her! Emma always enriches my life in ways I wouldn’t have expected - and the extraordinary gifts stick around for good.

- Julie Washburn, client

"Emma 'sees people' with a fun combination of childlike wonder, laser curiosity, questioning, acceptance, non-judgement, and with the "f" word thrown in.... with sparkles... and humor... and tenacity!!"

We also hold witchy writing parties on Zoom following the Wheel of the Year (8 seasonal witchy holidays).
