Time to return to what you love, a late autumn story

How has the transition into late autumn been going for you? I don't know about you, but this one has been kicking my butt!

I'm not a big fan of winter; so in September I usually bustle around to get prepared for it. I order new outer wear. I set intentions for how I'm going to go outside everyday no matter what. I de-clutter the house, and I do whatever I can to get myself ready for the months ahead.

But this year it completely slipped my mind. I forgot to prepare, and I wasn't ready for the dark, cloudy days and the long nights.

Because I wasn't thinking about it, the suddenly cold, short days have left me feeling stunned and confused. I've been walking around trying to remember who I am and what I usually do for fun in the winter.

To try to find some clarity, I pulled a card from Kim Krans's The Wild Unknown Animal Spirit deck this morning, and I got Fox. The message was simple. It was to return, with commitment, to what I love.

I've been spending the last couple weeks inside with cabin fever, but this card reminded me that what I love is being outside. I need to go outside even in the darker, colder weather, and this absolutely takes commitment.

As I sat with the card I realized my limiting belief about winter has been: "I can't go outside, because it's too cold!" The truth, however, is I CAN go outside if I do the work to make it possible.

I can absolutely put on layers, scarves, hats, and gloves and be comfortable enough to putter around my yard in the 40 degree weather.

I know that even 15 minutes of feeling the air on my face and looking at trees will help connect me back to my true self.

So my path to joy this winter is to return to what I love, even though it will take a little more energy than usual.

Is there anything you love that you've been wanting to return to? For example, do you love writing but need to change your writing routine or writing topic so you can make it happen?

The winter transition is a great time to stop and assess what needs to change so you can experience joy in your life.

xo,

Emma

P.S. I would love for you to join me and an amazing group of writers in The Courageous Bloggers Society, where we meet twice a month for live Writing & Coaching Workshops to help you discover your authentic message and build the confidence to write online and share your voice with the world!

P.P.S. Consider donating to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund and the Southern Poverty Law Center. I made donations to both organizations this week after the Rittenhouse trial acquittal. Also, read Mediocre by Ijeoma Oluo to get educated about the dangerous legacy of white male supremacy in the United States.

P.P.P.S. The image at top of this email is my nephew and I walking through the woods. Proof that going outside is still possible!
